New Delhi: Electricity projects under implementation would make India a power surplus country by 2012, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde told Rajya Sabha on 20 August.
Replying to Supplementaries during Question Hour, the Minister said India was targeted to achieve a power surplus of 5.6% and peak time surplus of 0.7% by 2012.
In reply to a query, he said during the first year (2007-08) of the 11th plan, a capacity of 1,935 MW has been commissioned till 15 August 2007.
The Minister said at present, a generation capacity of another 50.910 MW which is being monitored by the Central Electricity Authority is under execution and could be commissioned during the 11th plan.
In reply to a query, the Minister said 750 MW Bongaigaon Power project in Assam was under consideration of the government.
Assam would get 300 MW out of the proposed project, he said.
The Minister said the government would formulate a hydro-electricity policy within two to three months.
