Workshop to debate eco tourism policy

With 51% of Western Ghats, one of the hottest biodiversity spots on earth, falling in Karnataka, the state was witnessing increased arrivals in nature and eco tourism, resulting in heightened pressure on ecotourism destinations, N.D. Tiwari, Managing Director JLR told reporters here Monday.

Since private players have also joined the nature bandwagon, there was an urgent need for regulations and guidelines to ensure “things do not go beyond control and environment and nature is not endangered", he said.

It was in this context that a comprehensive study and analysis was required while discussing the challenges of eco tourism in the state, he said.

JLR which began operations 27 years ago, had 16 eco-friendly properties across the state, provided an effective interface between tourism, local community and conservation of wildlife and their habitats, he said.
