New Delhi: In the wake of global economic slowdown, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee is into a broad-based consultation, bringing in more stakeholders into the pre-budget discussions. The finance minister, who usually consults industrialists, economists, trade unions and farmers ahead of the budget presentation, is now meeting experts from electronics, information technology and financial sectors as well as exporters. Mukherjee is meeting the state finance ministers on 11 June.

CPM continues to defend Vijayan
New Delhi: The Communist Party of India (Marxist), or CPM, on Monday continued to defend the party’s state secretary in Kerala and former minister Pinarayi Vijayan, criticizing governor R.S. Gavai’s decision to accord sanction to the Central Bureau of Investigation to prosecute Vijayan in the SNC Lavalin graft case. A statement issued by the party politburo said the case was “politically motivated”.
