New Delhi: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the regulator in the higher education sector for technical institutes, on Thursday launched a website to facilitate online registration of grievances and processing of applications for approvals for new engineering colleges, courses or faculties.
The regulator, often criticized for its opaque functioning and corruption, also allowed new engineering and management institutions to admit a maximum of 300 students in a programme and also offer management and computer application courses in distance education mode at the postgraduate level.
The regulator has also decided to relax land requirements for new institutes and issue unique identification numbers to faculty members of the approved institutions, a mechanism that will help deter teachers from working in multiple institutions.
The National Board of Accreditation has also been set up as an independent body of the AICTE.
