“We hope that all issues will be resolved in a peaceful and democratic manner,” foreign ministry spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said on Tuesday.
A person familiar with the developments discounted the idea of a military coup. “We hope that the worst is over,” the person said on condition of anonymity. “It is positive that there has been an amicable solution to the turmoil going on in the Maldives.”
The person pointed out that the current situation was different from the developments of 1988 when the?Maldives had sought India’s help to fend off efforts by external powers trying to force a regime change.
