Mumbai: Mumbai police registered a complaint against Shiv Sena leader and state legislative council member Ramdas Kadam for allegedly making a hate speech against a minority community at a rally on Monday in Mumbai attended by Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial nominee of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Kadam has been booked under section 153 of Indian Penal Code, which deals with creating animosity between two communities, and sections 123 and 125 of the People’s Representation Act, which deal with intimidating voters or a class of voters and creating enmity between two communities.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has directed Mumbai’s deputy returning officer A.N. Valvi to examine the contents of Kadam’s speech and send a report.
