Over 50% Indian companies think women leaders critical to success: study

The study finds that 39% of the companies are already investing in initiatives and support women in leadership roles

Mumbai: More than half of the top 100 listed companies in India believe that having women in leadership roles is critical to the success of their organisations, finds a study.

According to a survey, titled Talent Trends Report—HR Game Changers and conducted among BSE100 companies by global human resource consultant firm Randstad India, having higher representation of women on the board had a positive impact on the return on equity (RoE) or the company’s profitability.

The study finds that 39% of the companies are already investing in initiatives and support women in leadership roles.

“A growing number of companies are actively enhancing their efforts and establishing diversity targets to ensure that hiring at all levels is aligned with business goals,” the report said.

The study also finds the biggest challenges for over 76% of these companies is how to manage the growing age-diverse workforce.

With the shift to the four generation workforce, the study says that companies would have to develop a balance of different incentives to engage, motivate and improve productivity.

The report said a significant portion of HR leaders in India are increasingly leveraging freelance and contracted workforce to give their organizations “the agility they seek”.

As many as 47% of the respondents said they consider every type of workforce, including permanent, temporary, contractor or consultant, as part of their talent acquisition strategy.

Besides, around 78% of the respondents interviewed said they need to create greater flexible working options such as variable work hours, job-sharing or working from home.

“With the proliferation of mobile, video and desktop virtualisation technologies, it is becoming far easier to hire remote staff that is comfortable working out of their own space,” the report said.
