Seoul: US officials said Chinese President Hu Jintao indicated to President Barack Obama that Beijing is frustrated with North Korea’s new leadership and may use its influence with Pyongyang to more strongly press its ally to scrap plans for a satellite launch.
China didn’t confirm the US characterization of the meeting.
Obama, who met with Hu Monday on the sidelines of a nuclear security summit, asked the Chinese leader to consider taking a tougher approach with North Korea, the US officials said.
