Over 12,000 cases settled in Lok Adalats
PremiumNew Delhi: Over 12,000 cheque bounce and money suits, involving private banking major ICICI as a party, were today amicably settled in first ever “digital and paperless" Lok Adalats held in five Delhi district courts.
“Out of 1.1 lakh cases, provided by ICICI Bank to be settled in Lok Adalats, over 12,000 cases of dishonouring of cheques and money recovery were Sunday decided with the mutual consent of the Bank and its consumers," DLSA Project Officer Sanjay Sharma said.
The amount decreed in favour of the Bank, which was also acceptable to the consumers for settling their cases with it, was not known as the computation of amount was on, he said.
Earlier, Supreme Court judge Justice Arijit Pasayat, who is also the Chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), inaugurated the Lok Adalat at Patiala House Courts complex and lauded the efforts of the DLSA.
“This paperless adalat, where you do not need to bring your bulky case files, is unique and it has added a new feather in the cap of the DLSA. It has also generated a new interest in litigants," Justice Pasayat said.
He, however, asked the ICICI Bank to become more consumer-friendly and considerate towards their grievances.
Hundred Lok Adalats were held at Tis Hazari, Patiala House, Karkardooma, Rohini and Dwarka district courts complex and litigants had the option to choose the place of hearing, the DLSA said.
