WASHINGTON: US Trade Representative Susan Schwab will head a trade delegation to New Delhi from April 12-15 to meet officials from India and other trading powers, US officials said on 4 April.
Schwab and her Indian counterpart, Kamal Nath, will co-chair a meeting of a bilateral trade forum that was launched in 2005, Schwab’s office said in a statement.
She will also meet with trade ministers from the European Union, Brazil, Japan and Australia in hopes of progress on the World Trade Organization’s Doha round of trade talks.
Officials from Washington have been holding small, off-line meetings with major trading partners, aimed at overcoming the divisions over agricultural tariffs and subsidies that have plagued the round since its launch more than five years ago. So far, negotiators have been mum on their results.
