New Delhi: Institute of Rail Transport (IRT) on Tuesday, inked an agreement with Indira Gandhi National Open University(IGNOU) to develop quality education programmes of international standards in rail transport management.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU), a joint coordination committee would be formed with experts from IRT and IGNOU to develop niche programmes in rail transport and in related fields that will range from certificate level courses to research programmes.
“Initially these programmes will be offered to railway employees but in due course they will be thrown open to general students from different streams as well,” an IGNOU faculty said.
IRT and IGNOU will identify study centres from among the existing infrastructure available with them to offer the courses. The IRT would bear entire cost of the project.
Chairman, railway board and president of IRT S S Khurana and IGNOU vice chancellor professor V N Rajasekharan Pillai were present at the signing of the MoU.
Pillai, on the occasion said, they are also in talks with Railways to exploit their country-wide broadband network to reach out to all students with quality programmes.
