Washington: United States has said that it was working in cooperation with authorities in countries like India to crack down upon those seeking visas through fraudulent means.
At the State Department, the Spokesman was asked to comment on the reported arrest of nine students in New Delhi who applied for visas through fraudulent certificates last month.
“I don’t have the details here. But suffice it to say that our consular officers are working with diplomatic security worldwide, on the lookout for visa fraud whether that is inside the US government or working with people outside it," State Department Spokesman Sean McCormack said.
“It is important to maintain the integrity of that system so that American people have confidence that we are doing our job on the front lines of America, welcoming people in but also trying to keep the American people safe," McCormack said.
“Very often, we do work with host country partners in uncovering this since it is not good for them, it is also not good for us. So very often, there are cooperative efforts in uncovering those ranks," he added.
