Kejriwal, convener of the recently launched Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has urged people not to pay their electricity bills and to sign a letter of support to be sent to Delhi chief minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit< >.

“They (main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, or BJP) say Arvind is doing politics. Yes, we are doing and they too should do similar kind of politics... If we are sitting here on a fast for 10 days, the BJP and Sheila Dikshit should also come and fast for at least five days," Kejriwal said, while addressing a crowd of volunteers and supporters at his fast venue in Sundar Nagri, on the outskirts of East Delhi. “Congress is doing the politics of corruption whereas we are doing politics against corruption."

In the view of the forthcoming Delhi state assembly elections, which the AAP will be contesting for the first time and for which it registered with the Election Commission on Friday, Kejriwal moved away from earlier locations of his fasts, Jantar Mantar and the Ramlila grounds, and chose a resettlement colony—a move that is likely to help him in targeting issues such as water and electricity bills.

“Hundreds of youths have joined us—not for money or power—but because they want to do something for the country," he said.

Kejriwal said he will end his fast when a “considerable number of people" will stop paying their water and electricity bills and sign the letter of support.
