SC intervention in J&K unrest

The Supreme Court on Friday will hear a plea seeking the court’s intervention in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The hearing comes days after the court toed the Centre’s line in the case, saying the issue cannot be settled by courts. Read more

Applicability of amended arbitration law.

The Supreme Court on Friday will begin hearing the case to decide on the applicability of the amended arbitration law on cases already pending before the court. The new law came into force on 25 October 2015 and it is unclear if the law applies to cases pending before the courts. The current case is related to a batch of petitions involving the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

Plea against tariff regulations

The Delhi high court will hear a bunch of cases filed in 2014 by the National Thermal Power Corp. (NTPC), Association of Power Producers and Lanco Power, questioning the validity of some provisions of the five-year tariff regulations framed by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission. Plea seeking ban on cow slaughter

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) will hear a plea seeking nationwide ban on slaughter of desi cows. The petition filed by Ashwini Kumar, advocate and environmental activist, claimed that there is a steep decline in the desi cow population of the country. Indian indigenous cows were being replaced across the country by exotic and cross-bred cows which were being imported from Europe, Australia and the US, it said.
