Ganga rejuvenation programme to be unveiled soon
Uma Bharati says her ministry is currently preparing a composite plan to rejuvenate river Ganga
New Delhi: “The government will announce its programme for Ganga rejuvenation in a few days. The ministry is currently preparing a composite plan to rejuvenate river Ganga," said Uma Bharati, minister for water resources, river development and Ganga rejuvenation. “The same parameters will be applied to clean up other rivers in the country as well."
The ministry plans to focus on the Ganga rejuvenation programme and will include the public in the process as well. On 5 July, Bharati will hold a meeting with technocrats, environmentalists and NGOs to consult on the programme.
The minister also said her ministry will not need to rely solely on the government for funds as it has been receiving offers from the private sector and from diplomats of various countries that have been successful in similar river cleaning projects in their countries.
