The average rainfall in India is about 117cm a year (between 1941 and 1990), with about 75% of that coming in the monsoon months of June to September. And, July is believed to be accounting for more than a third of the monsoon rains. A recent report using data collected over 193 years shows that since the 1960s, there’s been a dip in the country’s annual rainfall. Also, the monsoon’s contribution is slowly declining and the contribution of the post-monsoon period, October-December, is increasing. Also, though July remains the rainiest monsoon month, its contribution is declining with August and June rainfall becoming more important.
