Washington: US House Speaker John Boehner on Sunday threw into doubt an extension of a popular tax break for wage earners, saying he and his fellow House Republicans opposed the two-month extension passed by the Senate.
The Senate on Saturday passed a two-month extension but Boehner said he wanted to work out differences with the Senate before the end of the year, when the tax cut expires.
While White House economic adviser Gene Sperling said on Sunday he expects the House of Representatives will back a compromise for a two-month extension of a payroll tax cut.
“I really think it is very unlikely that the House would disrupt this compromise ... six days before Christmas," Sperling said on CNN’s “State of the Union" program.
