Guwahati: An estimated 75% of the voters cast their votes during repolling on Monday in six polling centres of three Assam assembly constituencies of Rangia, Bhawanipur and Udalguri.
Election office sources said the electors cast their votes peacefully between 7 am and 3 pm at the six polling centres where the Election Commission had ordered re-polling following disturbances on 11 April during the second phase of the hustings.
At Rangiya, 83.43% voters cast their ballot at voting stations number 53, 54, 55 and 56 where polling on 11 April was suspended following clashes between the voters and BSF men leading to injury of 22 persons during police lathicharge.
At North Udalguri Nagar Prathimik Vidyalaya in Udalguri constituency, 62% voters exercised their franchise after polling was stopped on 11 April when miscreants had tried to rig the polls.
In Bhawanipur constituency, 80% of the electorate cast their votes at polling station Number 111 in Geruwapara, where voting was stopped due to malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) during the second phase of polling.
