Shillong: Early release of funds and monitoring of progress of the works are among the steps mooted by Union minister for development of north eastern region (DoNER) B.K. Handique in a bid to expedite the completion of sanctioned projects of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
The Centre would ensure early release of sanctioned NEC funds to the implementing departments and agencies of the concerned state government. Besides, regular monitoring of the progress of works of the project would also be undertaken, a statement said quoting Handique.
Steps would also be taken to persuade the implementing agency for timely submission of utilization certificates and quarterly progress reports to NEC to expedite further release of funds, it said, adding regular inspection to the project sites to determine the actual progress of work would be undertaken.
The DoNER minister further said the Planning Commission has approved an allocation of Rs7,394 crore for the NEC for the 11th Five Year Plan.
Based on the proposals received from the northeastern states, the NEC has identified 56 roads, proposed to be taken up during 11th Five Year Plan.
