The news of the spread of swine flu over the last few days brought back memories of 2006 and 2007, when another type of flu—bird flu—threatened to expand into a
pandemic. Why do we suddenly seem to be catching so many diseases from animals? Why is a swine flu or a bird flu more dangerous to us than regular human flu?
Our guest on Just to Clarify this week, is Dr. V. Ramasubramanian, a senior consultant in infectious diseases and travel medicines at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai. Dr. Ramasubramanian is also the director of the boosters vaccination clinic for adults.
