Guwahati: The Centre has sanctioned Rs8 crore for the development of tourist spots in Assam’s Barak Valley and hill districts, forest and tourism minister Rockybul Hussain said on 11 April.
Quoting Hussain, who is in New Delhi, an official spokesman here said the minister had said the Centre had also allotted Rs 50 lakh for developing the Buddhist village of Shyamgaon.
Hussain, who called on Union Forest Minister A Raja in New Delhi, submitted a memorandum to him, asking for an immediate visit by a Central team of elephant experts to prevent the man-elephant conflict in Assam that has taken a toll of the lives of both human beings and pachyderms.
