Taxes | Direct tax collections rose 11.3% in Apr-Feb

New Delhi: India’s direct tax collections rose 11.3% to Rs2.58 trillion ($50 billion) in the period from 1 April to 28 Feb, the government said. Company tax collections gained 16.8% to Rs1.62 trillion, while taxes on individuals rose 9.6% to Rs959.3 billion, the finance ministry said in a statement. On 16 February, acting finance minister Pranab Mukerjee during the Union budget speech revised the estimate of direct tax collections in 2008-09 to Rs3.45 trillion,  15.6% higher than the previous fiscal’s collections.
