Food security Bill: Govt to expand cereal buying operations
Increased foodgrain requirement to implement proposed food security law behind the move to increase buying
Mumbai: The government on Sunday said it will be expanding its cereal buying operations to meet increased foodgrain requirement to implement its proposed food security law that aims to provide foodgrain at subsidized rates to 67% of the population.
“The foodgrain requirement for the implementation of the Bill is estimated to be 614.3 lakh tonnes as against the existing requirement of 563.7 lakh tonnes for the targeted public distribution system," the agriculture ministry said in a statement.
