Bhopal: BJP president Amit Shah on Sunday called upon the party workers to give a befitting reply to the Congress, which has alleged that his party is “pro-corporate", by highlighting how the Narendra Modi-led NDA government has earned huge revenue by auctioning coal blocks and 2G spectrum.

Shah said now it was for the people to decide whether the previous UPA government or the ruling NDA was “pro-corporate". “During UPA’s 10 year rule, 73 scams took place in which public money worth 12 lakh crore was looted. The Congress and its allies gave 220 coal blocks at a throwaway price of 600 crore," he alleged.

However, the BJP-led NDA after coming to power auctioned just 20 out of these 220 to earn 2 lakh crore for the government exchequer, he said. “Similarly, 2G spectrum was allocated in few thousands of crores (by previous government)," he charged. “But now, 8,000 crore have been deposited in the government exchequer," the BJP leader said addressing the concluding function of BJP Mahila Morcha’s national executive meeting here.

“The money deposited in government exchequer was realised from the corporate houses only and Congress termed BJP as pro-corporate. I call upon the BJP workers to give a befitting reply to the Congress’ charges during ‘Mahasampark Abhiyan’ (grand contact drive)," Shah said. “Now people have to decide whether it was UPA which was pro-corporate or NDA, as the money which BJP-led government has deposited in the exchequer has been realised from corporate houses only."

Shah also said that 26 May 2015 will be a glorious day for the BJP as on that day for the first time a non-Congress majority government will complete one year. “Though it will be reviewed in democracy in its own way, it is our duty to educate people about the actual achievements of the Modi government," he said.

Shah said that besides the Centre, the BJP on its own and with the support of allies is in power in 13 states of the country. People have lot of expectations from BJP as it is more sensitive (towards people) than other parties, he said.

Shah also said that BJP has set a world record by touching the 105 million figure during its membership drive. The campaigns like ‘Make in India’ and ‘Skilled India’ will effectively tackle unemployment and create jobs for large number of youths in the country, Shah said.

Accusing the Congress of trying to spread falsehood over the land acquisition bill, BJP president said the legislation is “kisan mitra" (farmer friendly) and not “anti-farmer" as dubbed by the opposition.

“Congress is trying to spread falsehood and create confusion around the land acquisition bill that it is anti-farmers.. (but) it is ‘kisan mitra’," Shah said.

“I want to assure farmers of Madhya Pradesh and the country that no injustice will be done to them in the land acquisition bill," he added.

The government has been facing stiff resistance from the opposition and few of its allies on the land acquisition bill which was passed with amendments in the Lok Sabha during the Budget session but got stuck in the Rajya Sabha.

The party chief reiterated its stand that not an inch of farmers’ land will be given away to the industrialists as being alleged by Congress and even in case farmers have to relinquish their land, they would be duly compensated as per the provisions in the bill.

He said the villages of the country need road, electricity, education, rail line network and hospitals. Shah called upon party cadres to reach out to the masses to counter false claims by Congress’s over the bill.

Praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Shah said Modi’s visit to the US and other countries have caught world’s attention while former PM Mahmohan Singh’s tours used to be low key affairs. “Thousands of people turn up to receive Modi during his foreign visits. It is not Modi or BJP’s image which is growing across the world but the pride of millions of Indians," he said.
