New Delhi: With the government formation exercise getting over, a reshuffle of the AICC is expected soon to give a new thrust to the organisation.
Four party general secretaries — Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mukul Wasnik, Prithviraj Chavan and V Narayanasami — have been inducted in the Union council of ministers, necessitating a reshuffle in the work allocation in the All India Congress Committee (AICC).
While Chavan and Narayanasami held dual positions, both in the party and the government last time, Azad and Wasnik only had party posts before the elections.
Azad is the party in-charge of Tamil Nadu and Orissa apart from being a cabinet minister, Wasnik too is in-charge of the states of Rajasthan and Delhi besides being a part of the Manmohan Singh cabinet.
In addition, Veerappa Moily’s organisational responsibility is likely to be given to someone else in the party. He was inducted as a cabinet minister and is in-charge of two states, Andhra Pradesh and Assam.
Oscar Fernandes, who was a minister in the previous government, is likely to come back to the organisation, as a general secretary. Fernandes is touted as a trouble-shooter in party circles.
At present, there are nine general secretaries. Party sources said the number could go up to 12 after the reshuffle which could take place after the first session of Parliament in the second week of June.
