National Herald case: HC issues notice to Subramanian Swamy
The court has fixed the matter for hearing on 5 August
New Delhi: The Delhi high court on Friday issued notice to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) politician Subramanian Swamy in petitions filed against him by Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
The Gandhis had petitioned the high court against an order passed by metropolitan magistrate Gomati Manocha summoning them and four others in a case relating to the ownership of the defunct National Herald newspaper group.
Swamy had filed a private criminal complaint before the metropolitan magistrate accusing the six of cheating, criminal breach of trust, dishonest misappropriation of property and criminal conspiracy in allegedly acquiring properties of the National Herald group.
The magistrate, finding a “prima facie," case had issued summons to the Gandhis to appear before the court on 7 August.
The Gandhis on 30 August challenged the summons as well as Swamy’s complaint, saying he was engaging in “political vendetta".
Justice VP Vaish of Delhi high court fixed the matter for hearing on 5 August. The Gandhis were represented by senior advocates Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.
