New Delhi: In an embarrassment to the Indian army the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) on 17 May set aside the annual confidential report (ACR) prepared by a senior commander by calling it biased.
The adverse report prepared by Lt. General (retd.) Kishan Pal for his junior Brigadier (retd.) Devender Singh had cost the latter his promotion.
The Tribunal also directed the army to rectify its military record and consider Singh, who commanded the Batalik-based 70 Infantry Brigade during the Kargil war, for a notional promotion to major general rank.
Earlier Singh in his petition before the tribunal had said that his performance in the Kargil war should be correctly recorded and his annual confidential report (ACR) written by Pal should be removed.
Singh expressed happiness at the judgement and said, “His stand is now vindicated”
The army avoided any comment on the judgement. “We are yet to receive the copy of judgement,” said Major General Sanjiv Madhook.
