New Delhi: The defence ministry is almost ready with policy guidelines for defence purchases that are likely to come into force by November.

The director general of acquisition will make a presentation in this regard in a few days to defence minister A.K. Antony, a ministry official said on condition of anonymity.

Defence secretary Pradeep Kumar, secretary of Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) V. K. Saraswat and the three service chiefs are expected to attend the presentation, the bureaucrat added.

“The final policy document will, however, take shape only after incorporating inputs from the minister, DRDO and the armed forces," the official said.

Major changes in policy are unlikely, an industry expert said, requesting anonymity. “The ministry is treading cautiously, so we expect no major changes in the policy document, only some minor tweaking here and there in some of the clauses."
