Maran’s exit may not affect DMK-Cong ties

New Delhi: Dayanidhi Maran’s resignation from the Union Cabinet is unlikely to alter the DMK’s equations with the Congress or for that matter alter the dynamics of the UPA. The resignation came a day after the Congress core group concluded that Maran’s continuance in the union cabinet has become ‘untenable’ in the wake of his name coming under the Supreme Court’s scanner in the 2G scam. Chennai: Quiet backroom manoeuvrings are on in the DMK with several senior MPs lobbying for the berths vacated by Dayanidhi Maran and A Raja. Sources say that the DMK silently is hoping to be compensated for the two cabinet posts, but DMK chief M Karunanidhi will not make any move to seek more berths or reopen channels of communication with the Congress leadership, sources confirmed. Mumbai: Dayanidhi Maran’s troubles are far from over. The CBI will soon register a case against the former cabinet minister for his alleged involvement in the 2G spectrum allotment scandal. New Delhi: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) that is probing the 2G spectrum allocation scam was on Thursday told by the Union Ministry of Finance how in 2006 the then Telecom Minister, Dayanidhi Maran, was able to remove the issue of spectrum pricing from the terms of reference (ToR) of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Telecom.
