Lucknow: BJP demanded setting up of an independent commission on 17 April to ascertain whether the “pseudo secularism" being pursued in the country since independence had benefitted the nation in any way.
“The pseudo-secularism has only harmed the country, it has increased crime and used by some parties as a political shield," BJP vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said. “There is only a mad rush among the so-called secularists for securing minority votes in the name of pseudo-secularism," he said.
“Terrorists and separatist elements have been shielded in the name of secularism," he alleged. “Uttar Pradesh has become the safest heaven for the terrorists," he alleged adding that even chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav has said that over 34 districts of the state were in the grip of terrorism.
The BJP is committed to smash the network of terrorists in the state if it was voted to power, he said. Naqvi urged the Election Commission to take note of the Chief Minister’s reported threats’ to the officials for taking action against SP workers’ and take action against him.
