AAP asks LG to reconsider scrapping of DERC chairman’s appointment
AAP's Delhi unit convener says reconsideration of the decision is important as it is in public interest
New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday urged Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to reconsider in public interest his decision of scrapping Krishna Saini’s appointment as the chairperson of power regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), a day after Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal made a similar plea.
AAP’s Delhi unit convener Dilip Pandey said reconsideration of the decision is important as it is in public interest and because the DERC determines the power tariff. Pandey said all the laid down procedures were followed by the AAP government during the selection process and if the LG does not reconsider his decision then his role would be suspect and he has to be ready to answer the people.
“If Saini’s appointment was scrapped because it had no approval of the LG, then he can do it now," he said. The LG’s office had on Monday claimed that Saini was appointed to the top post of DERC in March without Jung’s approval as mandated under rules and procedures.
