Chennai: Karnataka registered vehicles were vandalised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, and a driver was threatened on Monday by Naam Tamilar party workers, according to the Asian News International (ANI).

A video footage by Tamil news channel, Puthiya Thalaimurai, showed the party workers raising anti-Karnataka slogans and attacking the tourist vehicles.

In another incident, in the early hours on Monday, petrol bombs were hurled at New Woodlands Hotel in Mylapore, Chennai, by some unknown pro-Tamil groups.

Police said that about 10 members entered the hotel around 3.45am and allegedly damaged the tables and window panels in the hotel.

Also a threat note left by the alleged attackers in the hotel claimed if Tamils in Karnataka are attacked, a reciprocal action will follow.

New Woodlands Hotel, an Udupi-style vegetarian restaurant established in 1938 by Krishna Rao in Chennai, is considered to be a pioneer in popularizing Udupi cuisine in the city.

These incidents across the state were reported after a video of a Tamil youth being assaulted by a group of boys for writing against Karnataka went viral on social media on Sunday.

More than 1,100 pro-Karnataka associations supported the statewide strike, last week on Friday which forced the Karnataka government to boost security at its border with Tamil Nadu.

At least 25,000 police and security personnel were deployed on the streets of Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mandya, among other parts of the state, to maintain law and order.

Farmer and pro-Karnataka groups had called for a strike after the Supreme Court had directed Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water per day for the next 10 days to Tamil Nadu.

The Cauvery Supervisory Committee, headed by Union water resources secretary Shashi Shekhar, on Monday will meet in New Delhi to decide on the quantum of Cauvery river water to be released to Tamil Nadu and other states.

In a latest development, the Supreme Court modified its earlier 5 September order on Cauvery and instructed Karnataka to release 12,000 cusecs of water instead of 15,000 cusecs till 20 of this month. The modified order comes after the Karnataka government on Saturday sought an urgent hearing over the Cauvery water dispute.
