New Delhi: The chairman of telecom regulator Trai, JS Sarma, said on Thursday that consultation on additional payments for the 2G spectrum would end by 15 July.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) last week recommended operators pay a one-time fee for holding 2G radio-spectrum beyond 6.2 mega hertz (MHz) based on 3G prices, a move that will hit established firms that are dominant on the GSM platform.
India is the world’s fastest growing mobile phone market with some 500 million subscribers and is adding roughly 16 million new users a month.
