New Delhi: The Planning Commission has released the expert group report on poverty chaired by Suresh D. Tendulkar, former chairman of the National Statistical Commission.
The report put on the commission’s website states that four out of 10 people in rural areas in India are poor—a significant change from an existing estimate dating back to 2004-05, according to which around three in 10 people in rural areas are poor.
‘Mint’ had reported on 10 December about the potentially controversial findings of the report of the high-level expert group.
