Ministerial panel may discuss modified draft land acquisition law
The panel is expected to submit its report in three weeks
New Delhi: India is likely to form a ministerial panel on Tuesday to discuss the modified draft land acquisition law, said a person aware of the developments.
The group, to be led by farm minister Sharad Pawar, is expected to submit its report in three weeks, the person said, requesting anonymity.
The draft legislation was introduced in Parliament in September last year and was referred to a standing committee that submitted its report in May. A revised draft that includes some of the suggestions made by the parliamentary group was placed before the cabinet of ministers for approval on 28 August.
Due to differences in the Congress party, the cabinet decided to refer the proposed law, renamed as Right to Fair Compensation, Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Bill, 2012, to a group of ministers
