New Delhi: The Congress party on Sunday demanded that the Supreme Court monitor a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into mining and chit fund scams in Odisha, days after a Union minister alleged the central agency had gone slow on the investigation.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said, “The prime minister is not letting the CBI investigate into the charges of corruption against the (Odisha chief minister) Naveen Patnaik government in the chit fund scam and mining scam. In fact, we stand vindicated qua the fact that BJP and BJD (Bharatiya Janata party and Biju Janata Dal) are in cahoots in looting the resources and people of Odisha."
Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram issued a statement on Friday which said, “The central government has let the state government off in many issues including chit fund and mining scams. Had it not been the case, the CBI would have finished them off already. They should thank the Centre for it."
The statement, according to Ramesh, left very little to speculation.
“This vindication comes shockingly and truly as evidence from none less than Prime Minister’s cabinet colleague from Odisha and Union minister for tribal affairs, Shri Jual Oram," he said.
