Karnataka: Internal rift in BJP threatens to derail comeback prospects

Less than 15 months before assembly elections are to be held in Karnataka, the state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is a divided house—marked by a tussle between former chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa and former deputy chief minister K.S. Eshwarappa.

The long-standing grudge battle between the two men is fast becoming one of the biggest hurdles for the BJP ahead of assembly elections due in 2018.

“Any national leader can come and sort out this issue and we are open to this. If this (infighting) continues, there will be damages (to the party)—no doubt about it," K.S. Eshwarappa, leader of the opposition in the legislative council said. Read more.
