BackCensorship: Delhi HC reserves order on Kashmir documentary
CBFC lawyer claims the censor board had only sought cutting five seconds of 'Textures of Loss' that were not integral to the film

New Delhi: The Delhi high court Friday reserved its verdict in a plea by a filmmaker seeking to overturn the censor board’s requirement to cut certain parts of his movie.
Justice Rajiv Shakdher reserved judgment after hearing both the parties—the filmmaker Pankaj Butalia and the lawyer for the Central Board of Film Certification.
The lawyer for the CBFC claimed the censor board had only sought cutting five seconds of the movie that were not integral to the film, which was a documentary regarding Kashmir called Textures of Loss. He argued that it did not affect the right to freedom of speech of the filmmaker.
This plea came to the high court after it was allowed to be withdrawn from the Supreme Court. On 12 January, the apex court had observed orally that the film lacked a complete picture and had called it “fashionable" to depict a one-sided story of human rights issues, the Indian Express newspaper reported.
