Steel association moves SC for consolidated hearing in MIP cases
Attorney general Mukul Rohatgi asks the court to grant some time as the Centre has also filed a similar case for transfer
New Delhi: The Indian Steel Association on Friday approached the Supreme Court, seeking to transfer all cases across high courts related to the minimum import price (MIP) imposed on steel products by the government.
Attorney general Mukul Rohatgi asked the court to grant some time as the Central government had also filed a similar case for transfer.
At present, five cases are pending before the Delhi high court, one before the Punjab and Haryana high court and another before the Himachal Pradesh high court.
A bench comprising justices A. K. Sikri and C. Nagappan said that the case will be heard on 12 May.
The government imposed the MIP in February on 173 steel products aimed at providing relief to local steel producers hurt by cheap imports.
