Ahead of the release of the next round of Census 2011 data focusing on urban areas, Mint has compiled broad trends that are apparent from the first round of population data released earlier this year. The trend that emerges is that in the last decade, population in the regions adjoining the major metros has grown at a faster rate than the metros. This shows a new wave of urbanization in India that has started during the last decade.
