Economy and Politics | Tax officials search Parsvnath offices

New Delhi: Income tax (I-T) officials searched and surveyed the offices of Parsvnath Developers Ltd in Delhi and the National Capital Region on Thursday.
According to the officials, the survey is expected to continue over the weekend for two more days.
The search and survey operations also included the residence of the firm’s chairman and managing director, Pradeep Jain. Both Jain and the company’s spokesperson and were unavailable for comment.

Swiss authorities’ help sought in tax probe
New Delhi: The office of the metropolitan magistrate in Mumbai issued a letter rogatory earlier in the week to Swiss authorities asking for help to investigate the financial assets of Pune businessman Hassan Ali Khan, a senior official in the finance ministry who did not want to be named on account of ongoing investigations said.
The income tax department, in response to a question in Parliament in 2009, had classified Khan and his associates as the group with the largest outstanding tax defaults. At present, Khan and his associates have outstanding tax dues of Rs71,846 crore, the finance ministry official said.
A letter rogatory is a letter of request from a court for some types of assistance.
