Railways plans double-decker Shatabdi train between Mumbai, Goa

New Delhi: India’s first AC double-decker Shatabdi train will soon run between Mumbai and Goa.

Goa, a popular beach destination in the country, attracts tourists from all over the country and the proposed double-decker service will be a boost to tourism, a senior railway ministry official said.

There is a proposal to run the train between Mumbai and Goa to cater to the growing demand by tourists, the official said.

The first double-decker air conditioned train between Howrah and Dhanbad was flagged off in October 2011, and since then the service is operational between many cities, including Ahmadabad-Mumbai, Chennai–Bangalore, Delhi-Jaipur and Delhi-Lucknow.

Shatabdi Express, a premier service of railways, connect Metro cities with other cities important for tourism, pilgrimage or business. Shatabdi trains return to the station of origin the same day.

AC double-decker trains are equipped with modern amenities and its coaches have special features for comfortable travelling with a seating capacity for around 1,500 passengers.
