Left takes on Mamata over land accquisition for railways
Kolkata: The Left Front seems to be toeing the Trinamool Congress line on land acquisition. After being on the receiving end for years, the Left Front is hitting back by disputing land acquisition in West Bengal by the Indian Railways, which is headed by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. The fisheries department of the West Bengal government has filed a complaint with the police alleging that the Railways had filled up 37 acres of waterbody without obtaining necessary clearance from the state administration, fisheries minister Kiranmoy Nanda said on Thursday. This could mark the beginning of a political battle over the Railways’ plans to lay a 22km long new track for which it is acquiring land.
