Railways’ earnings from freight remain flat
New Delhi: The Indian Railways’ earnings from freight remained flat, making Rs4,642 crore in freight revenues, a less than 1% increase from the year-ago period. This is despite a 2.44% increase in freight loading from 69.95 million tonnes in May 2008 to 71.66 million tonnes in May 2009.
Freight earnings for the national transporter has declined nearly 6 percentage points since January.
Sequentially, freight earning in May went up 1.5% from Rs4,573.17 crore recorded in April this year.
Freight loading for the first two months of FY10 increased 2.84% over the year-ago period to touch 141.64 million tonnes during April-May.
