New Delhi: The government on Tuesday indicated that it is likely to announce further measures in the ensuing Foreign Trade Policy to control inflation.

“We are continuously discussing it. You can see some steps in the next couple of days," Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath told reporters when asked whether the government was considering more steps to contain inflation.

The commerce ministry is set to unveil the annual review of the Foreign Trade Policy on 11 April. It would not be exports alone which would be the focus, but steps to ease imports are also likely to give a boost to supply of essential commodities.

The government is facing political pressure from many quarters, including the Left parties, to check the rising prices within a couple of weeks.

Nath had said the government would, if need be, calibrate its duty structures to control inflation.

Inflation touched a three-year high of 7% for the week ended 22 March. The government announced a slew of measures such as abolishing import duty on crude form of edible oils, banning export of non-basmati rice to ease pressure off prices.
