The grandest reality show in India always draws thousands of aspiring politicians to the Capital. Age and sex is no bar here. Their worried faces and hands clutching political portfolios make it easy to spot the political moths who flit around at the headquarters of national parties. With the ruling United Progressive Alliance appearing to hold a slight advantage now, it is not surprising that the Congress party headquarters at 24 Akbar Road is the most attractive. At 11 Ashoka Road, hub of the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party, the crowd is only marginally thinner. But many go back disappointed. “We finalize candidates only on the basis of the lists our state units send. The serious aspirants know these visits are useless,” said a Congress general secretary.
