Levels of job engagement
Levels of job engagement
More than one-third of the employees (37%) in India are “engaged" with their place of work, combining maximum job satisfaction with maximum contribution, putting India at the top of a survey by global consulting firm BlessingWhite Inc. India, where the portion of such employees has risen from 34% in 2008, is on par with Australia and New Zealand, and ahead of Europe, North America, South-East Asia and China, found the survey conducted during August-November.
The 6,243 responses from India made up 21% of the global pool. BlessingWhite, which published the findings from India in a detailed supplement to its global study, classifies employees further as “almost engaged" (with reasonably high levels of job satisfaction and contribution), “honeymooners" (new in their jobs, feeling satisfied, but as yet not capable of maximum contribution), “hamsters" (who may be working hard but contributing little to a company’s success).More sobering findings: more than one out of 10 employees in India are “actively disengaged" (unhappy and a drain on the organization’s success) and as many are “crash and burners" (who, while maintaining a high level of contribution, are feeling “used", taken advantage of or bored, and not challenged and are likely to leave their jobs).
