Patna: Faced with acute electricity shortage, the government of Bihar has threatened to scrap joint ventures with NTPC Ltd (NTPC) and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) if the two agencies fail to complete the renovation and maintenance work of Barauni and Kanti thermal power plants on schedule.
The warning followed a high-level meeting convened by chief minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday evening to assess the power situation in the state. Kumar was annoyed with the progress of renovation and maintenance work of of the two thermal power plants, an official spokesperson said on Monday.
The state’s energy minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who attended Sunday’s meeting, said, “If the central agencies assigned the job of completing the restoration cannot do the work, they should tell us in clear terms. We will then explore other available options and get the work done.” PTI
