India says gaps remain in global trade talks
New Delhi: A large number of gaps still remain in global trade talks, India’s trade minister said on Thursday, adding he hoped trading partners would have moved closer to each other by next month.
“Still, a large number of gaps remain. We have to do a lot of running. We hope to arrive at some convergence by next month," Commerce and Industry Minister Kamal Nath told reporters.
Trade powers will meet in July for a long-awaited attempt at a breakthrough in talks, which could be delayed for years if a deal is not reached soon.
World Trade Organisation Director-General Pascal Lamy called on Wednesday for a group of ministers to meet, probably for several days, from 21 July to push the Doha round of global free trade talks toward conclusion.
