New Delhi: The Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS), the information technology (IT) arm of the Indian Railways, on Wednesday launched Rail Radar, which allows the public to track train movement.
“The Rail Radar system... is primarily aimed at disseminating information about all the running trains at any point of time,” said Sunil Bajpai, group general manager, CRIS.
“We are addressing the needs of train passengers which have been evolving over the period of time to get accurate and precise information,” said Manish Rathi, co-founder of Railyatri.in, a start-up that has partnered with the Railways to provide real-time train information.
The Railways also aims to enable GPS tracking on the entire network.
“We have been experimenting with the idea of installing GPS devices in trains and have successfully implemented it for 360 train services in Chennai,” Bajpai said. “We will be rolling this out for all our trains and over the next year the results will start showing.” CRIS plans to install GPS devices in 10,000 locomotives.
